Dungeons & Dragons
Returning to the Game After a LONG Hiatus
Recently I started playing Baldur's Gate 3 online with a few friends (ones whom I'd originally met from playing SWTOR), which re-introduced me to Dungeons & Dragons, a game that I hadn't played in . . . oh . . . 40 years?
It was way back in the early 80's that I first got into the original "AD&D" (now also referred to as "1E" or "First Edition") when I was in Junior High School, largely because I learned about it from one of my older brothers, who played that and a handful of other TTRPG's at college.
From the BG3 game, the opportunity arose to join an actual D&D game (two of the three BG3 players were part of this game, one of whom was the GM) because another player had dropped out. A short time later, once my schedule allowed it, I asked to join.
I have been enjoying playing this game WAY more than I ever expected.
The Campaign
The game I joined is based on a published module called Odyssey of the Dragonlords, and it has a unique setting and aesthetic that, for all intents and purposes, takes place in ancient Greece.
It's based on the 2004 D&D Fifth Edition, which is of course a BIG culture shock to someone whose perspective is from Ye Olde 1E AD&D. A LOT has changed. Thankfully, my time playing Baldur's Gate 3 proved to be an excellent re-introduction into 5E, with only a handful of noteworthy differences between the table game and the video game.
On interesting thing about this game for me is that I joined it while it was already well in progress, so I had the additional difficulty of jumping in and starting play at level 12. On the other hand, that rolling start also allowed me to do something very interesting with my character creation that I wouldn't have been able to do starting at level 1. I'll explain all of that on the page about my character.
What's On This Site
D&D is a game that encourages creativity, and much like with SWTOR, it's inspired me to write and create other side-art, which I'm preserving and sharing here. Here's what you'll find (so far):
- My Character, her backstory, and notes about creating and role-playing her
- A handful of short stories and "novelizations" of events that occurred in our game
- Some AI-generated art related to the game and its events
