 | Class: Jedi Consular / Shadow Tank Race: Cathar Age: ~25 Alignment: Light Crew Skill: Biochem Character Concept: A rival/foil for Galadina Important Relationships: - Galadina |
Tanther was already a Jedi Shadow tank of some renown when Galadina had her incident on Dromund Kaas and subsequently re-trained as a shadow. Having previously enjoyed a sort of "top of the class" status until she came along and rocketed through the training (As Kari said, "...it was like teaching a Rancor to EAT.") to challenge his status.
That led to some initially-fierce rivalry, which eventually settled into mutual respect, and ultimately into a weird sort of friendship.
He's still a little put off by how she was nominated to join the Jedi High Council, but is confident that he'll be joining her THERE soon too.
Origin of the name: A melding of the words "Tank" and "Panther" |
Origin of the Costume: This is going to sound strange, but Tanther is loosely patterned after the anime character Panther Lily from Fairy Tail. See below for the reason why. |
Trivia:
- Tanther is more of a concept than an actual character, and as of this writing I have not used him in any of my stories. I had a general idea of how he would appear in the third part of Power and Betrayal, but since I still haven't even the second part, he remains just an idea.
- The idea, such as it is, is to have a competitive rival and a foil for Galadina in that he's a male Body-Type-3 to contrast against her Type-1 female frame.
- He's inspired by Gajeel Redfox from the anime Fairy Tail and his relationship with Galadina mirrors the relationship between Gajeel and Natsu Dragneel. Much like Gajeel, Tanther has respect for Galadina's skills (even if it's a tiny bit begrudgingly) but firmly believes that his are just as good or better. His general attitude toward her is "If you can do it, then there's NO WAY that I can't do it too."
- That said, they are friends and the sort of rivals that use friendly competition to push each other to keep improving and getting stronger.
- This is, then, the reason for the look of Lily, another character from the anime closely connected to Gajeel. If Tanther really is a version of Gajeel inserted into SWTOR, then making him look like a character connected to Gajeel rather than Gajeel himself makes it a bit less on-the-nose obvious.
(Of course, I immediately undermine myself by explaining all this in detail here....) - I toyed around with establishing Tanther as Tangress' mate, but haven't decided (yet) whether or not that will be a Thing™. I suppose until he actually appears in a story, it's still on the table as a possibility.
- For a long time I had to settle for the name "Tanthers" since just plain "Tanther" was already taken, but fortunately I was able to rename him after the version 7.6 system-wide names harvest.
